Requesting IPv6 for LIR

IPv6 for LIR | IPv6 for End User

 

This document aims to provide the necessary information for those who wish to request IPv6 address space from AfriNIC.

 

Allocation for IPv6 addresses for LIRs.

If you are not an AfriNIC member, please complete your LIR membership process as described at http://www.afrinic.net/membership/membership.htm.

Once this is done, please follow the procedure below:

Step 1: Check your eligibility

The policy requires the requesting organization to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Should not be an end site,
  • Should be an LIR.
  • Plan to provide IPv6 connectivity to organizations in the AfriNIC region..
  • Plan to assign a reasonable number of /48's to end-sites in the AfriNIC region within 12 months of receiving an IPv6 allocation.

    Step 2: Request template

    Step 3: Submittal of Template and Auto Response

    Upon successfully submitting the template, AfriNIC issues a ticket number via e-mail to the e-mail address that submitted the request.

    Step 4 - Review Process

    AfriNIC reviews and responds to a resource request within not more than two (2) business days.
    For questions about requests, please communicate via e-mail to hostmaster@afrinic.net or call AfriNIC headquarters at +230 466 6616. When contacting us, please have the appropriate ticket numbers and other request documentation readily available. It is also helpful if the caller readily has internet connectivity during the call, as some reference may be made to our website.

    Step 5 - Request Approval

    AfriNIC evaluates your request and gets back to you if further information like request justification and proof of certain documents is needed. AfriNIC notifies your organization via e-mail to the individual who submitted the request, whether the request was approved or not.

    Step 6- Fee Payment and Allocation

    Resources will be allocated within 2 working days once request is approved for LIRs who are in good standing.
    For new LIRs, AfriNIC shall send you an invoice once request is approved. Allocation will take place only after the money is reflected in our account.
