6. What Internet-related services does your organisation provide?
UNDP is a worldwide network of interconnected national offices which heavily depend on IP addresses management; hence, UNDP is a major IP consumer and a client for local Internet registries.
7. Why do you want to serve on the Board and what goals do you want to accomplish as a Board member?
I have been a Board member for the last three years and was regularly appointed as the Chair. While under my steersmanship AfriNIC has been established as both a performing registry and one of the first Africa based Internet resource management authority, I still feel more has to be done. For instance, AfriNIC still need to consolidate its foundations, deepen the confidence of its constituencies and broaden its community of users. After our first three year of operation which largely benefited from assistance from three national countries, we will now have to run an autonomous business which demonstrates soundness, quality of services while altogether contributing to the global challenges of policy making for the governance of the internet.
Indeed, policy development is one of the key activities of a registry and AfriNIC will need a Board which understands the issues and is able to strategize for an effective African positioning. I feel I could contribute to the next phase of consolidation and expanding AfriNIC operation with the experience gained from these last ten years as one of the Internet development pioneer of the continent. AfriNIC will need to strengthen its relationship with other institutions and the African regional and continental organizations in a view to be fully integrated as part and parcel of the African Internet environment, especially at the aftermath of the WSIS and the current internet governance debates; thus, it will have to take its share in the overall development of the Internet in Africa. My current job with the UN, my experience as a policy advisor, my involvement in many Internet related activities both at regional and international levels, and my full bilingualism can still be le veraged on to take AfriNIC to greater spheres.
Lastly, I am strongly in favor of an advisory body, the members of which would be chosen according to their intrinsic values and skills, their overall experience in RIR's matters and their 'policy /strategy advice capacity. This will deepen AfriNIC's efficiency and sustainability, and if elected for another term, I will seek to establish such a body.
8. Do you have fiduciary experience? Please provide relevant information .
