First FIRE Award at IGF 2012


3The Fund for Internet Research and Education (FIRE) and AFRINIC is proud to announce that from the many applications received we have selected for the category of E-Development, the Pan African Medical Journal from Uganda. The Award Ceremony was held in Baku, Wednesday 7, November 2012. Mr Raoul Kamadjeu received the Award on behalf of the PAMJ, from Ms Anne Rachel Inne AFRINIC's Chief Operations Officer.


The Fund for Internet Research and Education (FIRE) is a programme designed to encourage and support the development of solutions to information and communication needs in the African Region. The Fire programme emphasises the role of the internet in the socio economic development for the benefit of the African community. The FIRE programme, which provides small grants and awards, has been set-up to help local and regional projects designed to introducing, improving and plying Internet technology for the benefit of African users and communities.


The 2012 FIRE Award recognised contribution to ICT innovation across three categories


The Award package includes a cash prize of 3 000 US dollar to recognise projects that have finalised activities aligned with the 2012 funding categories and a travel grant for a representative to attend the Internet Governance forum in Baku, Azerbaijian.
