The African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) is a
nonprofit and member-based organisation
registered and operating
under the Corporate Legal Frameworks of Mauritius
Welcome to AFRINIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) serving Africa and the Indian Ocean region. We are entrusted with the distribution and management of critical Internet Number Resources, including Internet Protocol (IP) address space (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs).
At the core of our mission is the professional and efficient distribution of Internet Number Resources to African Network Operators. AFRINIC plays a vital role in supporting Internet technology development across the continent and fostering Internet self-governance through our bottom-up, multi-stakeholder Policy Development Process (PDP).
Internet Number Resources are allocated to AFRINIC and the four other RIRs by Public Technical Identifiers (PTI). the organization responsible for coordinating the Internet's unique identifiers. PTI performs the IANA functions, encompassing domain names, Internet Number Resources, and protocol parameters.
Explore our global connectivity – AFRINIC collaborates with four other RIRs worldwide:
  • APNIC: Serving the Asia Pacific region.
  • ARIN: Serving Canada, the United States, and many Caribbean and North Atlantic islands.
  • LACNIC: Serving Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • RIPE NCC: Serving Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Central Asia.
Each RIR re-allocates Internet Number Resources within their geographical regions based on community-developed policies.
